The last article, posted here on April 20th, discussed how the site had been rather neglected for several months. Unfortunately, since then, no other updates were made. Hopefully now, updates can begin to come more frequently.
Today marks the first day of the Atlantic hurricane season. The Hurricane Center has been updated to show the 2009 storm names. A more dynamic system should be out in the near future. (I don't think I've actually ever launched a new version of the Hurricane Center at the actual start of hurricane season.)
There is also new information in the Weather Center for this week. Stay tuned for more (hopefully frequent) updates.

It's been a while. Updates to this site have fallen by the wayside over the past two months or so, with very few updates to the site. In fact, the last weekly forecast was for December 14, 2008! Hopefully we will be able to get some more updates under way soon (as well as more exciting bigger and better things), but for now, the Weather Center has been totally updated. All forecast sections are now up to date for this week.
Cold Snap Blasts Region

A deep Arctic blast has brought single digit to below-zero temperatures to the region with wind chills reading well below that. A Wind Chill Advisory was in effect from early Thursday until midday Saturday, a period of nearly 36 hours! This is an extremely long time for any weather advisory, but gives some idea as to the extent of the bitterly cold temperatures.
Many schools in the region were canceled Friday because of the cold temperatures. The unofficial observations for Friday in Unity Township, PA are a high of 11.3°F at 2:39PM. The low was a bitter -4.3°F at 7:40AM. At time of this writing, the temperature was -3.3°F, with temperatures expected to fall a few more degrees.
A small warmup is expected over the weekend, but receding slightly into Monday. Full details on the rest of the week will be available on the Weather Center at a later time.

When people think the end of December and weather, they typically think "White Christmas". And while we didn't see White Christmas, we surely got a "Wet Christmas". In fact, 0.88 inches of rain fell on Christmas Day, and the majority of the rain actually fell in between that (on the 24th and the 26th).
But looking ahead, we're really in a warm up.... (Click Read More for the full story.)

Version 1.38 Launched

A new update was released to the web today. It is thecloudonline.net version 1.38. This update offers a two small fixes and two bigger ones.
First the small issues. A typo in the title of the About page was corrected, and some new content was added to the Weather Center. The short-term forecast and weekend forecast may be updated this week as well.
One of the bigger changes was that the Hurricane Center was updated with some final content for the 2008 season. 2008's Hurricane Center was a nice base, but expect to see it become much more functional for the 2009 season. Planning is already underway.
The second major change applies to the front-page stories. Due to the insane amount of spam received recently, a spam-prevention system had to be put in place. This system is called a ReCAPTCHA system and will require you to simply enter two words. For more information (as well as to see why this system is actually supporting a worthy cause), look here.
For the record: If you really want to increase the amount of spam on the site - just write a story about it and don't do anything about it! You're sure to receive close to 5,000 spam comments in the course of a month! I believe that because this system is in place now, we can write the word spam without it attracting more spammers. But we'll see.
